Civil Society Coordination Meeting on March 30th, 2023 – Meeting Minutes

1. Administration changes in NGOs at Siret customs

Radauti Civic announces that it will continue activities until the end of April. The decision was taken following discussions between the organization’s management and sponsors.

In other news, IOM representatives announced the closure of Iasi office. The reason for taking this decision is the reduction of funding from external donors. Under these circumstances, it seems that translators within the organization might shortly stop the activity.

The NGO representatives, during the coordination meeting of civil society organizations, agreed that the meetings have to be held once a month. They will take place on the last Thursday monthly. We hope that such a schedule will allow better planning of activities and reduce pressure on organizations’ busy schedules.

2. Contradictions generated by modifications of 50/20 program

The government is willing to change the 50/20 program, because the price of rentals has grow up and has a direct impact on romanian citizens. It has to be mentioned that the Ukrainian refugees receive 20 lei/person for food and 50 lei/person for accommodation daily.

According to the new draft, they will receive from the County Emergency Inspectorates an amount of 2000 lei per month to cover their accommodation. This amount will be granted for each family or for every person who doesn’t have a family.

A family is defined as a group of persons consisting of spouses, parent(s) and/or their minor children, as well as a person raising and caring for one or more minor children.

NGOs from Siret customs have already reported cases where house owners refuse to take in refugees and moreover ask them to vacate their apartments because they say that the program has no longer a financial benefit for them.
